The Kalahari Eye Warriors (KEW) is an organization set up in December 2013 to respond to the lack of
participation in cricket by many previously disadvantaged communities. The organization was formed to primarily
facilitate an increase in exposure to cricket and provide a platform for development of school children in
communities in and around the JTG District. The displays and respective rises to prominence of the names of
Kagiso Rabada and Temba Bavuma in the Proteas team have only served to heighten interest and hope in the
communities we serve.
Through our “Hope in Cricket” project, we have been successful so far in our aim to facilitate an increase in
exposure to cricket by organizing soft ball (“KFC Mini Cricket”) coaching clinics with coaches and facilitators,
archie proceeded to 3 more trial stages, namely Kathu, Douglas and Hopetown) among other things. Our
senior team plans to register in the JTG Senior League in the 2017-2018 season, during the 2019-2020 we registered 2 Senior men’s team, a senior women’s team and an under 13 junior club team.
In the past 3 to 5 years we have managed to enrol 20 schools in our coaching programmes, capacitated our coaches
through the respective KFC and CSA coaching ranks, registered 2 junior teams in the Kalahari Sub-Union Primary
school leagues (U/11 & U/13), and current we stand at 12 Juniors teams registered in the JTG Schools League, from U/11 to U/19 boys and girls, we are committed to growing our project to even greater heights.
We believe this can be achieved through the collaboration of parents, schools, the respective communities,
Northern Cape Cricket Union, Public and Private sectors.
